Ostap Mykytovych Veresay is a Ukrainian musician, kobzar, performer of folk songs, historical, everyday, humorous and satirical songs. At the age of four, Ostap lost his sight. He was fond of music and singing from an early age. As a boy, he learned the art of singing and playing the bandura from the kobzar Yukhym Andriyashivskyi, whom he met at a fair in Romny and was his guide. After the death of Andriyashivskyi, Ostap studied for some time with the kobzar Semen Koshovoy from the village of Golinka, after him with the lyre maker Nychipor Kolyada, then returned to Kalyuzhyntsi and continued his studies on his own. He moved from Kalyuzhyntsi to the village of Sokyryntsi, Prylutsky District. For more than forty years he traveled through the cities and villages of Ukraine.
