The single figure (statue) depicts the outstanding Ukrainian poet, artist and public figure in full height, in a pensive pose, with a gloomy look turned down, his right hand clenched into a fist, with a book in his left hand, with a cloak thrown over his shoulders, with an uncovered head. The monument was erected on the site of the previously destroyed monument to Taras Shevchenko by the sculptor I.P. Kavaleridze, which was made in the style of cubism and made of short-lived concrete, which became the reason for its demolition.
