The Monument of Immortality is a mass grave of Soviet soldiers on the northeastern outskirts of the city. near the Sumy-Kharkiv highway. After the defeat of the Nazi troops near Stalingrad, the advanced units of the Voronezh Front liberated Okhtyrka on February 23, 1943, but on March 11, Soviet troops left the city again. In the first half of August 1943, the right flank of the Voronezh Front approached Okhtyrka, where the Nazis formed a strong grouping of tank and mechanized units. The battle for the liberation of the town took place from August 11 to 25, 1943. Okhtyrka was finally liberated on August 25, 1943. On September 24, 1967, the the memorial complex "Monument of Immortality" was opened at the place where the battles for the liberation of the city began. The complex includes: - The mass grave of Soviet soldiers, the grave of Motyhin L.S.; - A memorial sign in honor of the units and formations of the 27th Army; - A memorial sign in honor of the fallen soldiers from the countryside; - T-34 tank. The historical monument is listed in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine under the category of local significance (protection no. 4042-CM). Order of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine of 10.02.2020 No. 630.
