M.V. Gogol is considered a classic of Russian literature, the most prominent representative of its ‘Ukrainian school’. In addition to his contribution to Russian literature, Gogol also had an indirect influence on Ukrainian literature and Ukrainian culture in general, and was an avid ethnographer and collector of Ukrainian folklore.
