Monument of monumental art. Vasiliy Melezhik was born in 1926 in the village of Belousivka (now Chernukhinsky District, Poltava Region). After finishing seven grades of school, he worked in a collective farm. In 1944, Melezhyk was drafted into the Red Army. From November of the same year, on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, he was a rifleman of the 2nd Rifle Regiment of the 99th Rifle Division of the 46th Army of the 2nd Ukrainian Front. distinguished himself during the liberation of Hungary
