Ivan Petrovych Kotliarevskyi was a Ukrainian writer, military officer, classic of modern Ukrainian literature, and public figure. Kotliarevskyi made a significant contribution to the formation of the modern Ukrainian literary language. The fate of Kotliarevsky's literary works is interesting. While still at the seminary, the novice ‘rhyme writer’ wrote poems in the ‘Little Russian’ language for a separate almanac called Poltava Fly, which was later called a satirical magazine.
